Sky Sports understands Portsmouth are poised to sign former Manchester City man Kelvin Etuhu.
The 23-year-old, who was released by City last March following a jail term for assault, has been training with Pompey.
The midfielder is believed to have impressed Fratton Park boss Michael Appleton and he is ready to offer Etuhu a deal on the South Coast.
Appleton is keen to bolster his squad options and he is prepared to give Etuhu the chance to rebuild his career.
Etuhu came through the ranks at City, but struggled to break into the first-team and spent spells on loan at Rochdale, Leicester City and Cardiff City.
