Steve Cotterill believes there is little chance of Portsmouth landing a loanee from Chelsea, while he remains coy on other possible targets.
The Pompey boss was keen on securing a Blues star on a short-term deal, with Patrick van Aanholt and Ryan Bertrand believed to be in his thoughts.
He has, however, been unable to make any progress in his endeavours and has resigned himself to the fact that he will need to look elsewhere for new recruits.
Ipswich midfielder Grant Leadbitter is one man Portsmouth remain keen on, with one offer having been lodged.
Cotterill claims to be unaware of how those talks are progressing, while he is remaining tight-lipped when it comes to any approach for Norwegian forward Erik Huseklepp.
He told
The News: "I don't think we can get the player I would have liked to get in on loan from Chelsea.
"As far as I know, our chief executive has spoken to one of the Ipswich guys (about Leadbitter).
Money
"It's not come out publicly from us. Maybe they want it to come out publicly. It's not something I'd discuss in public. He's not our player.
"Is Huseklepp a player we're interested in? Maybe. Maybe not."
Cotterill does still have money to spend before the transfer window closes and he admits he is confident on landing at least one more player.
He added: "We've spent a little bit of money.
"We're already looking at a player who is going to cost a few bob in his mid-20s with a good pedigree.
"We can't have it all. The owners have been very good with what they've done so far."
