Gavin Mahon is keen to secure an extended stay with Crystal Palace after joining the Eagles on a short-term deal.
The midfielder moved to Selhurst Park on terms until the end of the season after being released by QPR having been on a month-by-month contract following his return from a knee injury.
Having initially met up with Palace boss Dougie Freedman while out shopping, the 34-year-old is now eager to demonstrate his abilities on the field in the closing weeks of the season.
"I told Dougie that I'd come in and show him what I'm all about as a player and as a man and if he likes that then hopefully I can extend into next season as well," the former Watford skipper told the South London Press.
"I'm looking at it as a mini-trial. It's a different environment, different coaching and a chance for me to show what I can do.
"I've met Dougie once or twice when he's been out shopping in Hatfield Galleria and he would ask how I've been getting on. Dean Austin's kids go to the same school as mine in St Albans and he was also asking if I was fit."
Palace remain embroiled in a relegation battle and are just four points above the relegation places with eight games of the season remaining.
They have a chance to pull clear this weekend when they host Barnsley, with Sheffield United travelling to QPR on Monday, Scunthorpe away to Norwich and Preston playing host to Swansea.
