Sunderland striker David Connolly has undergone further surgery as he bids to end a lengthy injury absence.

Connolly has not played since January and after an earlier hip operation last week had surgery on a groin problem in Germany.

Manager Roy Keane said: "David has had another operation and hopefully it will lead to the end of his problems.

"He's been out for some time, but we are hopeful he will be able to resume his career now."

Republic of Ireland international Connolly, 31, joined Sunderland in August, 2006 and has since made 42 appearances for the Black Cats, scoring 13 goals.
