Portsmouth striker David Nugent has been ruled out of action for two months after undergoing a second hernia operation.

The former Preston star struggled to make an impact at Pompey in his first year at Fratton Park after arriving in July 2007 in a £6million move.

This season Nugent has also found life tough and has failed to make an appearance following an injury-plagued start to the campaign.

And despite going under the knife in January in a bid to solve his hernia problem, Nugent was forced to travel to London on Tuesday for a second operation.

He is now unlikely to return to action until December, much to the disappointment of Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who told The News: "David's had a hernia operation which is disappointing for the lad.

"He hasn't played since the start of the season.

"The problem's come up again so he had to go to London for an operation. Let's hope it works this time.

"It's disappointing. We'll just have to see how it goes."
