Pompey defender to end international exile

Portsmouth defender Lauren plans to end his international exile to help Cameroon qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The former Arsenal full-back has not played for the Indomitable Lions since the 2002 World Cup and has spurned the approaches of a number of coaches. But the lure of representing his country at the 2010 tournament in South Africa appears to have finally tempted him back from the wilderness. Lauren has already arranged to hold talks with Cameroon manager Otto Pfister to inform him of his availability.

Hope

He told Cameroon newspaper Mutations: "There is a hope for me, because to play a World Cup for an African team in Africa is unbelievable and fantastic. "But to reach the World Cup I need to play the qualifying games. "I will see the manager as soon as possible, we have an appointment to meet, and we will talk. "I left the national team because of personal reasons and also our organisation around the national team was not very professional. "I spoke with Geremi, he tried to convince me to return early on, but I decided not to because things did not improve. He was not happy. However, he keeps telling me the team need me."
