Lyon coach Alain Perrin has confirmed Milan Baros is in talks with Portsmouth about a return to the Premier League.
Pompey manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bring Baros to Fratton Park on loan until the end of the season, and revealed on Thursday that he expects to capture the Czech in the next few days.
Perrin confirmed that a transfer is close, while admitting he may hold onto Baros until after Sunday's derby fixture against St Etienne.
"We will see how discussions progress with Portsmouth before deciding whether to involve him in the squad (for Sunday's Ligue 1 game against St Etienne)," he said.
Baros' impending departure will see Fred stay at the club after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas revealed that only one of the strikers would leave in the January transfer window.
And Fred - reportedly targeted by Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint Germain - has voiced his determination to prove his worth.
"Today my position is clear and definitive: I stay at Lyon," he said in France Football.
"I don't want to hear anymore about a transfer. I want to prove the real Fred is back."
