Paris Saint Germain insist that Lyon striker Fred remains their top target in the January transfer window.
The Brazilian international has attracted interest from the likes of Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Portsmouth.
Fred has previously admitted he would prefer to stay in France and PSG chairman Alain Cayzac has confirmed his club are still keen to sign the 24-year-old.
However, PSG insist they do have other targets should Fred not move to the Parc Des Princes stadium.
"If we don't sign Fred, it will be another player," Cayzac told the French media. "We have other solutions abroad."
Lyon, though, say that Fred has shown some uncertainty regarding a move to PSG.
"Things are improving slowly," Lyon chairman Aulas added.
"I can confirm that before the weekend the player stated his preference is Paris. The next day it seems he had different words with some journalists.
"Now it is up to him to make his choice. The different propositions are very close. But I still believe the best for Ligue 1 is for Fred to join Paris."
