Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has conceded defeat to Middlesbrough in the battle to sign Lyon striker Fred.
The French champions recently revealed they had accepted bids for Fred from Portsmouth, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Redknapp has indicated that he does not believe Fred will be coming to Fratton Park and that he feels Boro are close to landing the Brazilian international.
"Fred? Fred who? There is no way we can afford Fred at Lyon. I think he's going to Middlesbrough anyway," Redknapp told the Portsmouth News.
However, Lyon have suggested that Fred, who has scored five times in 9 appearances for Brazil, has his sights set on palying for PSG.
