Striker could deputise for African-bound stars
Portsmouth have reportedly offered a trial to French striker Fabrice Pancrate.
The former Paris St Germain forward is currently with struggling Ligue 1 side Sochaux, but has made just three appearances for the club so far this season.
Pancrate did have a loan spell at Real Betis last season, but he failed to secure a permanent move to the La Liga side.
Sochaux are in the process of recruiting a new manager after their poor start to the season, but the player has been told that he is free to leave the club.
Although predominantly a striker, Pancrate can also play on the right-hand side of midfield, and with Portsmouth due to lose John Utaka, Sulley Munatri and Kanu to the African Cup of Nations his versatility could be useful to Harry Redknapp.
