Pompey stalwart happy to wait for return

Portsmouth defender Linvoy Primus is not ready to call time on his playing career, despite doubts he could miss the rest of the season. The no-nonsense defender, who has been out of action since May, underwent pioneering knee surgery last month. Surgery has left Primus on crutches and wearing a leg brace as his fitness fight begins, but the 34-year-old is staying positive. Primus is happy with his rate of recovery, but is refusing to set a comeback date in order to avoid rushing back too soon. "I can't set a date on when I'll be back or even if I'll be back this season," he told The News. "There are no short cuts.

No pressure

"There's no pressure on me to try to get back to play. If I play one game and break down for the sake of that one game, is it really worth it? "It's all going to plan at the moment. I could be ready in April and if it's not and I'm ready in September instead then that's how it is. "It's not career-threatening. It's a case of managing everything at the right time. Even Dr Steadman said there's no problem with me playing again. "It's not a case of it's going to finish me or anything like that. I'm seeing the surgeon next month as planned but until then I really don't know when I'll be back."
