Derby manager Billy Davies has reiterated that he is not on the verge of signing David Nugent.
The Rams have been linked with an interest in Nugent, who has failed to settle at Fratton Park after only joining the club in the summer.
Davies knows Nugent well after managing him at Preston and he was expected to make a move for the Pompey forward.
However, the Pride Park Boss has rubbished speculation of any possible transfer.
"I am apparently buying David Nugent from Portsmouth for £6million - which is a surprise to me - and will certainly be a surprise for him," said Davies.
"At this moment in time, with the transfer window open, there are all sorts of moves going on and things taking place.
"But, we are very clear about who our targets are."
