Derby boss Billy Davies has rubbished talk he is preparing a bid to sign Portsmouth's David Nugent.
Davies worked with the England striker at Preston and reports claimed the Rams chief was lining up a move for the 22-year-old.
Nugent is just three games into his £6million move to Fratton Park, but was dropped from the starting line-up for Saturday's clash against Bolton fuelling talk of a possible move to Pride Park.
But Davies has dismissed the speculation and insisted it is just paper talk.
"I am not sure who is more surprised by this news, me or David Nugent," Davies told Portsmouth Today.
"It is nothing more than speculation and the kind of mischief-making you get in the transfer window."
