Nugent eyes Europe

David Nugent has set his sights on helping Portsmouth qualify for Europe.

Portsmouth new boy David Nugent has set his sights on helping the club qualify for Europe.

Nugent arrived at Fratton Park earlier this month from Preston in a £6million deal.

The England international hopes he can score the goals to fire Pompey to success and he is not worried about the hefty £6million price tag on him following his move from Deepdale.

"The money thing does not bother me," Nugent told Sky Sports News. "I have got to show it on the pitch now, show the fans and all the other people that I can do it in the Premiership.

"Yeah it is a massive fee when I have never played in Premiership but the price tag I have put it to the back of my head already.

"I have settled in well here and training is going well. I have only had two games and I am getting there.

"I am really looking forward to the season to start. The price tag does not bother me one bit."

Nugent is hoping he can carry on his prolific form from the Championship in England's top flight.

"I am a striker, I get paid to score goals and hopefully I can do that for Portsmouth and get them into Europe," added Nugent.

"That is what we are aiming for and we have got the squad to do that so that is what we are going for."

Nugent admitted he will set himself a goals target and that he is determined to get into double figures.

"I haven't set it [a goal target] yet but I will a week or so before the start of the season," noted Nugent.

"You have got to get into double figures no matter what.

"Hopefully I can get a good start and carry it on."
