Addicks pounce for Prem duo

Charlton have signed Svetoslav Todorov and Nicky Weaver on free transfers.

Charlton have signed Svetoslav Todorov and Nicky Weaver on free transfers.

Bulgarian striker Todorov joins from Portsmouth after rejecting the offer of a new contract over the weekend.

He featured just once for Pompey in the second half of last season after returning from a loan spell at Wigan, and was concerned his opportunities would be limited if he stayed at Fratton Park.

Todorov had been linked with Leicester and Stoke but Addicks boss Alan Pardew has won the chase for his signature and tied him to a three-year deal.

Weaver arrives from Manchester City on a one-year contract and will hope to be first-choice at The Valley following Scott Carson's return to Liverpool.

Weaver lost his place in the Man City team to Andreas Isaksson last season.

Todorov and Weaver become Pardew's seventh and eighth signings of the summer and the manager is delighted to bring them in.

"They are two great Bosman signings for Charlton," Pardew told the club's official website.

"They are two proven Premiership players who are now Championship players.

"Nicky hasn't had the breaks in his career that he has deserved but this is a great opportunity for him, while Svetoslav's quality and precision, which is proven in this division, will be very important to us, especially in home games."
