Middlesbrough have denied receiving any bids for Nigerian striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

Yakubu has been linked with a return to former club Portsmouth and, after seeing Mark Viduka join local rivals Newcastle, Boro are unlikely to be keen to lose another key member of their front-line.

However, with Jeremie Aliadiere signed and sealed and Tuncay Sanli on the way, rumours persist that Yakubu's time on Teesside could be coming to a close.

Local sources reported on Wednesday that Pompey are ready to table a part exchange deal including midfielder Gary O'Neil in order to convince Gareth Southgate into a sale.

It is believed Pompey have already made a tentative enquiry as they continue to work hard to identify a financially-viable attacking target.

According to Boro chief executive Keith Lamb though, the North East club have not yet received any formal offers for Yakubu.
