Portsmouth's reported interest in Fredi Kanoute has prompted a come-and-get-me plea from the Sevilla striker.

Since quitting English shores for Spain the powerful 29-year-old has added a goalscoring touch to his undoubted ability and 28 goals in all competitions are testimony to his talents.

Such form has prompted inevitable interest in his services and while Sevilla are now regarded as one of Spain's top clubs, Kanoute is eager for a fresh challenge.

Portsmouth chief Harry Redknapp knows all about the player's capabilities having had him at West Ham and it is thought Portsmouth would be willing to shell out £7million to land his services.

Bolton and Newcastle are also thought to be monitoring Kanoute's situation but the player's agent, Christophe Mongai, feels the 'Redknapp factor' could persuade his client to head for the South Coast.

"I know Freddie wants to return to England and if Portsmouth are interested in him then why wouldn't he want to go there?" Mongai told the Daily Star.

"They are a successful club and Harry Redknapp is their manager.

"Fredi knows all about him from when they worked together at West Ham.

"It's Fredi's choice to play in England again but he's scored a lot of goals for Sevilla and they want a lot of money for him."
