Auxerre have already rejected an offer from Portsmouth for Younes Kaboul, according to reports in France.
The Under 21 international is regarded as one of the most promising defenders in France and has been linked with a move away from Auxerre for some time.
Portsmouth were believed to be keen on Kaboul last summer and rumours of their interest resurfaced in the January transfer window.
And reports suggest Pompey made a bid of é¼9million (£6million) for the versatile Frenchman before the start of the season which was knocked back by Auxerre.
Portsmouth are understood to still be considering Kaboul, but they could face fierce competition for his signature in the summer.
Tottenham and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for him, while Lyon and Paris Saint Germain could also decide to make offers.
Kaboul has so far given no indication that he is in a rush to leave Auxerre.
