Portsmouth have been linked with a move for rising Lorient star Andre-Pierre Gignac.
The 21-year-old has shone in Ligue 1 this season, scoring four goals and inspiring Lorient to some impressive victories.
Pompey have reportedly been keen on Gignac for several weeks, but the speculation has now intensified after scouts from the Premiership club watched him in action against Nancy on Saturday.
According to French sources, Portsmouth could be set to offer é¼3 million (£2 million) for the forward in the New Year.
Gignac has made no secret of his desire to move to England, and has previously admitted that Pompey do appeal to him.
Several French clubs have also been tracking his progress, with St Etienne chairman Bernard Caiazzo believed to be a big fan.
However, as yet there has been no contact between St Etienne and Gignac.
