Coventry are hoping to sign Portsmouth defender Richard Duffy on loan.
The 21-year-old Welshman has been tracked by a number of Championship clubs after falling down the pecking order at Fratton Park.
Queens Park Rangers this week declared they would be drawing out of the race, and Coventry boss Micky Adams now looks set to clinch a deal for Duffy.
Adams is short of options at full back with Marcus Hall suffering knee ligament damage in the recent win over Southend and Andrew Whing on loan at Brighton.
"We've got Richard Duffy lined up to come into the squad, if we can complete that deal on loan," Adams told Coventry's official website
"Hopefully the paperwork will be completed by the weekend so we have to look forward.
David McNamee also pulled a hamstring during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday and Adams accepts he may have to hunt around for more reinforcements.
"It looks like we are going to have to have to look around for another one," he admitted.
