Palace failed in O'Brien bid

Bob Dowie has revealed Crystal Palace failed in an attempt to sign Andy O'Brien on loan.

Crystal Palace director of football Bob Dowie has revealed the club failed in an attempt to sign Portsmouth defender Andy O'Brien on loan.

O'Brien is down the pecking order at Fratton Park and Palace had hoped to bring the Republic of Ireland international to Selhurst Park.

However, the 27-year-old remains in Harry Redknapp's long-term plans, forcing Palace to look elsewhere in their search for defensive reinforcements.

"We spoke to Harry Redknapp about Andy O'Brien but he indicated he was still part of his plans," Dowie told the Kingston Borough Guardian.

"There's really nothing to be done there.

"We are still looking at the moment for possible loan deals."

Derby were also reportedly interested in taking O'Brien on a temporary basis but it would appear the former Newcastle stopper will remain on the South Coast.
