Skysports.com understand Portsmouth are making a move for Nicolas Anelka.
Pompey have been linked with a plethora of strikers and it is thought that Harry Redknapp has made Anelka his top target.
Anelka is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Fenerbahce, but it is thought that the former Manchester City and Arsenal ace is interested in a move back to England.
Redknapp has a substantial transfer budget to deal with and he is thought to be ready to pull out all the stops to lure Anelka to Fratton Park.
Anelka was a big hit in England with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City and Redknapp believes he would be a valuable addition to the squad.
It is believed talks are at an advanced stage between all parties as Pompey look to bring Anelka in on loan with the option of a permanent move.
It remains to be seen if Fenerbahce will sanction a move for Anelka with several other sides monitoring his situation.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth are also being linked with a move for Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin.
Distin's future at City remains uncertain as he has still to agree a new contract at Eastlands.
Redknapp is in the market for a new central defender and he is believed to be a big fan of the former Newcastle stopper.
