Benfica appear in a strong position to land Andres D'Alessandro despite Harry Redknapp's optimism that Portsmouth are still in the chase for his signature.

The Wolfsburg playmaker impressed during a loan stint at Fratton Park last term and is also wanted by Real Zaragoza.

"I don't think it's dead," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "They're talking about Zaragoza and I think they're interested in him.

"He's a smashing little player, a great footballer and the fans loved him.

"I loved him as a player.

"It's still possible it could happen but we'll have to wait and see on that one."

However, agent Eugenio Lopez claims Benfica have already agreed personal terms with the Argentinian starlet.

"Benfica will have to solve the problem with Wolfsburg," Lopez told O Jogo, when quizzed about the failure to agree a fee.

"Between the player and Benfica, everything is a certainty.

"However, he also has an offer from Zaragoza and, at the moment, it is still not defined where Andres will go to play next season.

"If Benfica can reach an agreement with Wolfsburg, we will not have a problem. Andres never had a problem because he is thinking about his career."
