Juventus star Fabrizio Miccoli has rejected a possible move to Portsmouth.

The Italian international has snubbed an offer to join Pompey on loan as he is holding out for a switch to Benfica.

Juve are willing to let Miccoli leave as they look to trim their squad ahead of the new season.

The Bianconeri are known to not have too much cash to spend this summer and they are exploring ways to bring in some money.

Aston Villa had been linked with the talented striker, but they denied they were interested in Miccoli.

Portsmouth have now emerged as suitors of Miccoli and they are reported to have met Juventus officials to discuss a possible deal.

However, Miccoli is thought to have rejected their overtures and has set his heart on a switch to Benfica.

The Portuguese giants have held a long-term interest in Miccoli and are keen to bring in the former Perugia man to bolster their squad ahead of their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi is confident they can agree a deal with Benfica for Miccoli.

"Jose Vega (Benfica technical director) is a friend and we know Benfica are interested in him and we can negotiate it," said Moggi.

"Miccoli is a great player and we will not let him leave for less than ‚é¼7 million (£4.7 million).
