Saints seal double swoop

Southampton have completed the double signing of Ricardo Fuller and Thomas Hajto.

Southampton have completed the double signing of Ricardo Fuller and Tomasz Hajto.

The Saints have agreed a fee of £90,000 - plus a further £250,000 if they secure promotion - with South Coast rivals Portsmouth for Jamaican hit-man Fuller who has penned a two-year deal.

Redknapp had taken Fuller to Pompey when he was in charge at Fratton Park and was keen to be reunited with the former Preston man despite a long-standing knee complaint that troubled him last term.

Fuller came through his medical satisfactorily and Redknapp revealed he was keen to add another striker to his squad ahead of the new Championship season.

"He has proved himself at this level and he will be a real handful. No-one has an easy game against him," said Redknapp.

"Ideally I would still like to sign another striker. I have no-one in mind at the moment but I will have a look around and see what comes up."

Polish international defender Hajto joins on a free transfer after a lengthy spell in German football.

The 32-year-old has turned out for Duisburg, Schalke and Nurnberg, but has now signed a one-year contract at St Mary's and is relishing the challenge of getting The Saints back in The Premiership.

"Southampton are a big club," Hajto stated.

"Over the years I have watched a lot of Premier League football and they have always been there and I hope to help them get back there.

"They are among the favourites to go up and they have a lot of ambition to do that. They had 27 years at that level and deserve to be there."
