Bournemouth have taken former Portsmouth defender Shaun Cooper on trial at Dean Court.
The 21-year-old has been searching for a new club following his departure from Fratton Park at the end of last season.
Cooper recently spent time on trial at League One rivals Gillingham before opting to train with The Cherries this week.
The defender, who spent time on loan at Leyton Orient and Kidderminster Harriers over the past two seasons, appeared in Bournemouth's pre-season friendly with non-league Eastleigh on Monday.
The news comes as Cherries boss Sean O'Driscoll lost the services of midfielder Stephen Purches for up to six weeks with a knee injury.
The 25-year-old sustained a tear to the medial ligament of his right knee during Friday's pre-season friendly with South Coast rivals Southampton.
Meanwhile, a groin injury means Chris Cohen will not now be joining Bournemouth on loan - although the deal could be resurrected later in the season.
