Portsmouth look set to land Greece international goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias from Panathinaikos.

The Greek champions have revealed that a deal for the custodian will be tied up this week.

Chalkias is well known to Pompey director of football Velimir Zajec, who was in a similar role at the Greek club before his move to The Premiership.

"We expect the deal to be completed on Thursday," a spokesman for Panathinaikos said on Wednesday.

Chalkias may not be the last Greek star targeted by Zajec, with several more of the Euro 2004 squad linked with a move to England.

Chalkias was number two to first choice keeper Antonis Nikopolidis though Greece's successful European Championship campaign.
