Bournemouth's attempt to take Portsmouth defender Lewis Buxton back on loan has fallen through.

Despite an announcement from the Fratton Park club last week that the youngster would re-join the League One club for a third loan spell, Buxton was advised by his representatives not to take the temporary switch.

The news will come as a disappointment to Cherries boss Sean O'Driscoll, who seemed keen to have the youngster amongst his ranks yet again.

Despite the setback, the club announced their hopes that the 20-year-old will eventually have another stint with the Dorset-based outfit this season.
