Cameroon international Valery Mezague is training with Premiership side Portsmouth.

The young attacking midfielder is currently on the books of Montpellier, who play in Ligue 2.

But he is attempting to earn a switch across The Channel after spending time training with Harry Redknapp's squad this week.

Mezague, who suffered head injuries in a serious car crash 12 months ago, returned from the setback to become a key performer for Montpellier.

He was unable to keep the club in the French top flight but his eye-catching performances were noted by his suitors.

The 20-year-old has appeared twice for Montpellier this season and is under contract until 2006.

Whether he does enough during his brief stint at Fratton Park remains to be seen but Pompey are likely to monitor his progress.
