PORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp has quashed reports that he is interested in Sunderland striker Marcus Stewart.

With Bulgarian hit-man Svetoslav Todorov ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, speculation had arisen that The Pompey boss was set to swoop for the former Ipswich Town man.

However, Redknapp told BBC Sport that the Black Cats striker was not in his plans:  "There is nothing in the link with Stewart at all," he said.

"I tried to sign him about eight years ago when I was at West Ham and I like him but we are not going to sign him."

With Todorov out, the Fratton Park boss did concede that he would be stepping up his efforts to bring in a replacement and said on Sunday he was keeping tabs on Wimbledon forward Patrick Agyemang and team-mate Nigel Reo-Coker.

"We have to wait and see and have a look at what is around," added Redknapp.

Pompey physio Gary Sadler informed the club's official website regarding the injury to last season's top scorer:  "We are expecting him (Todorov) to have surgery next Saturday, but it does not look good.

"His cartilage is torn and his cruciate ligament is affected. We will be clearer after surgery as to timescales."
