PORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp has expressed his interest in signing Millwall midfielder Steven Reid but claimed the player may be too expensive for the Premiership newcomers.

The Republic of Ireland international has attracted the interest of fellow Premiership side Blackburn Rovers, with manager Graeme Souness having made a £2 million bid for the 22-year-old.

Reid still has two years to run on his contract with South East London club and although Redknapp is a big fan of the youngster, he feels the £2 million asking price may be a bit beyond the Fratton Park club.

"I like Steven Reid, he's a player with a big future," said Redknapp.

"He'd cost £2 million and I don't know if we could afford that sort of money.

"If we could, I'd love to get him."

Lions boss Mark McGhee is keen to keep his prized asset but is resigned to seeing him leave The New Den, should a substantial bid be received by the club for him this summer.
