MATTHEW TAYLOR may miss the remaining weeks of Portsmouth's promotion push with a heel injury.

The First Division table-toppers fear the highly-rated full back will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign when he undergoes an operation this week.

Taylor has been plagued by a nagging heel injury for several weeks and Pompey have opted to remedy the problem.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation at Fratton Park since arriving from Luton Town last summer and has been an integral performer in the club's relentless charge towards The Premiership.

Pompey manager Harry Redknapp admits the outlook is bleak for Taylor's prospects of making a comeback before the season is over.

"Matt Taylor will have his operation this week," confirmed Redknapp.

"He's struggling and we don't know if we will see him again this season. Hopefully we will.

"We hope the op won't be too bad and he will play again. He's been playing on it and having injections week in and week out and it's not fair to him."
