Kinnear blasts Under-21 scouts

LUTON TOWN manager Joe Kinnear has reacted sarcastically to the news that Matthew Taylor received a call-up to the English Under-21s.

Taylor has been in sparkling form with Portsmouth, who themselves have made a stunning start to the season in Division One.

Kinnear always believed that Taylor would get international honours, but lambasted the scouting system that he thinks ignored his former charge.

"I'm annoyed about Matthew Taylor," said Kinnear.

He added: "It's amazing that he gets a call-up as soon as he leaves Luton.

"He's the same Matthew Taylor that played for us last year and he should have been in the team last year, but most of the people who run the Under-21s don't have the knowledge to see it.

"But if Matthew had played when he should have played, his valuation would have gone up.  So we've lost a massive amount of money.

"We'd have been talking about a £2 million player.

"I've seen it before.  Every great Wimbledon player had to go to another club to get a call-up."
