SPURS SNAP UP BEASANT

TOTTENHAM have snapped up Portsmouth veteran Dave Beasant to help provide cover for number one Neil Sullivan.

With United States international Kasey Keller out through injury, Glenn Hoddle has been looking for a new keeper, and turned to former Wimbledon star Beasant, even though the Italia '90 England squad member is now 42.

Pompey had been keen to hang onto Beasant, even though Japanese international Yoshi Kawaguchi has arrived at Fratton Park in a blaze of publicity, but the outside prospect of Premiership football was obviously a deciding factor for the man nicknamed 'Lurch'.

"I did not want to stand in his way," said Graham Rix.

"With no disrespect to us, I'm sure he would rather sit on the bench in The Premiership with Spurs than with us."

Beasant has agreed a two-month deal with the White Hart Lane outfit, after Hoddle decided to move for the experienced shot-stopper, as reported on Wednesday morning on planetfootball.com.
