Sky Sports understands Reading are lining up a move to hijack Crystal Palace's swoop for Sheffield United striker Nick Blackman.
Crystal Palace were hoping to bring in Blackman before Thursday's transfer deadline and have lodged a bid for the striker.
However, Reading have enterted the race for Blackman and they are hoping to lure the former Blackburn man to the Madejski Stadium.
Blackman caught the eye during United's clash with Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday and Royals boss Brian McDermott is ready to make a move for the pacy forward to bolster his attacking options.
Blackman has impressed for Sheffield United this season since his arrival from Blackburn last summer.
The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals this season and he is regarded as one of the best young talents outside the top two divisions.
Leeds are also thought to be weighing up a move for Blackman if unsettled striker Luciano Becchio leaves Elland Road, but Reading are in pole position to land Blackman as they can offer him Premier League football.
