Reading's Hal Robson-Kanu says the players were always confident that owner Anton Zingarevich would stick with manager Brian McDermott.

Reports emerged recently saying that the Russian owner was planning to replace McDermott with PSV coach Dick Advocaat and then bring in as many as 10 new players.

But Zingarevich said last week that McDermott's job is safe and that the claims about a huge influx of new players were also false.

And Wales international Robson-Kanu said: "The owner gives full backing to the manager and that goes without saying.

"As players we always knew that, it wasn't a surprise to us. The support that everyone has shown throughout the club has been consistent and it will continue to be like that."

And Robson-Kanu also stressed that Zingarevich has a very positive impact around the club and does not interfere in McDermott's work.

"He is about the changing rooms after games and sometimes prior to games and obviously he wants us to do well," he said. "It is his club and we want to do well for him. It is a nice bond and it is special and long may it continue.

"He knows when to draw the line and leaves a lot of it - he actually leaves all of it - to the manager.

"He has opinions on everything, as does everyone. He is the owner of the club and it is great to have an owner like that.

"I think Reading is quite a unique club. There is a feel and environment within it, the owner has bought into that, and obviously the manager is a massive part of that as well."
