Reading's first Premier League game in four years will be at home to Stoke on 18 August.
Brian McDermott's Championship winners host City before their away campaign begins with successive trips to Sunderland and Chelsea.
Tottenham and Newcastle both visit the Madejski in September, and December brings another tough schedule featuring home games against Manchester United and Arsenal on top of a trip to Manchester City.
The Royals are off to White Hart Lane on New Year's Day, while March ends with back-to-back away games at Old Trafford and the Emirates.
The season ends with a home game against champions City followed, on the final day, by a trip to West Ham.
