Reading have recalled goalkeeper Alex McCarthy from a loan spell at Championship rivals Ipswich Town.

McCarthy joined Ipswich on a three-month deal in January and he was due to stay at Portman Road until 11th April.

However, after Reading's back-up goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen suffered a knee injury earlier this week, McCarthy has been summoned back to the Madejski Stadium.

With Andersen's injury being assessed, McCarthy could provide the cover for first-choice keeper Adam Federici when Reading head to promotion rivals West Ham United on Saturday.

The 22-year-old made 10 appearances during his time with Ipswich and started six games during a loan spell at Leeds United earlier in the season.
