Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey says the club are 'halfway through the process' of selecting their new manager but refused to be drawn on speculation Alan Curbishley is out of the running.
Curbishley was thought to be among the frontrunners for the Molineux role, which is vacant following Mick McCarthy's sacking at the start of the week.
But reports surfaced on Saturday suggesting the former West Ham and Charlton boss is out of the frame.
On course
Moxey refused to comment on such speculation but says the interviewing process is on course, having already revealed they intend to have a manager in place before Wolves' next game against Newcastle.
He told
Sky Sports News: "We said right from the start we would not be drawn on speculation about individual candidates.
"We're about halfway through the process, it's going well. We've seen some very good candidates, we've got some more candidates to see and we've got second interviews.
"We're looking forward to getting through the next stage and hopefully making an appointment sometime next week if at all possible."
He added: "This job requires a certain type of manager. It certainly requires someone who is going to give us complete commitment and enthusiasm.
"It's a big job, it's an exciting job and I think we'll find the right candidate."
Lee Clark is another name to have been linked with the role following his surprise sacking at Huddersfield this week.
Asked if the former Newcastle midfielder would be too young for the job at just 39 years old, Moxey replied: "We said this is a job not for a novice but I don't want to get drawn on individuals.
"Lee Clark has done a good job at Huddersfield and we're aware of his sudden availability but it's difficult for us to speak about individuals."
Warnock
Moxey also refused to reveal if Neil Warnock, appointed as Leeds manager on Saturday, had been a potential candidate.
He added: "All I would say is that Neil Warnock and I go back a long way and I'm really pleased that he's got a job with Leeds United.
"I'm sure he'll do a really good job for them and I hope he'll be joining us in the Premier League next season and hopefully we can keep our place and play them next year."
