Brian McDermott was pleased his players took the chance to impress the club's prospective new owner as Reading recorded a 1-0 win over Burnley.

Anton Zingarevich was in the crowd at the Madejski Stadium for Friday's game, his first visit to see the Royals since the deal was announced in January.

Zingarevich's consortium, Thames Sport Investment, is set to complete a reported £40million takeover of the Berkshire club next month, and the Russian spent several minutes on pitch before kick-off taking in the surroundings.

And the Reading boss was happy that his side were able to deliver a positive result for the tycoon.

McDermott said: "It's good for him to watch the game, have a look at the stadium and the training ground and what we're about really.

"If you're in a different country you're just hearing other people talk about it and not feeling the environment, and I think it's important to feel the environment.

"That's important because environment to me is everything.

"He will have enjoyed the victory, that was the most important thing.

"Burnley were a decent team, there's no doubt about that, so we have to be very pleased with that result tonight."
