Brentford have added Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to their squad on an initial month-long loan deal.

McCarthy has enjoyed a positive week and followed up signing a new three-year contract at Reading by making his England Under 21 debut against Uzbekistan.

He has now secured a loan move to Brentford and will be in Andy Scott's squad for Saturday's League One game against Walsall.

"Alex is highly regarded at Reading and will be coming to us on a high after making his Under 21 international debut for England against Uzbekistan on Tuesday evening," Scott told the club's official website.

"He also had a very successful loan period with Yeovil Town last season playing 44 of their 46 League games."

The 20-year-old has also previously had loan stints at Cambridge United and Aldershot, but has yet to make his Reading debut.
