Steve Coppell is happy Leroy Lita turned down a move to Sheffield United in order to stay at Reading.
Lita, who recently completed a three-month loan spell at Norwich City, was offered a move to Bramall Lane earlier this week.
With the former England Under 21 international out of contract at the end of the season, Reading decided to accept the Blades' bid.
And, after Lita shunned a move to their Championship rivals, Reading boss Coppell confirmed the striker remains part of his plans this season.
"He has set the marker with the way he's been training, it's been terrific," Coppell told the club's official website.
"We had a bid and I'm more than happy for Leroy to stay and compete for a place.
"He's under contract to the summer and I can't think any further than that.
"Obviously we're waiting to see what happens with our own future, we're determined to be successful.
"What happens at the end of his contract depends on a lot of things. Like a lot of clubs we've got a fair few players out of contract, it's not just Leroy."
