Nicky Shorey is to undergo a medical at Aston Villa on Thursday after Reading accepted a reported bid of £3.5million for the defender.
Shorey has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs this summer, but it appears that Villa, who have also agreed a fee for Middlesbrough's Luke Young, are set to land the England international.
Royals boss Steve Coppell admitted on Wednesday that he was bracing himself for the full-back's exit and revealed the club had already rejected one offer.
However, Coppell's concerns now appear close to becoming reality as Villa have confirmed in a statement on their official website that 27-year-old Shorey is due to discuss terms.
The statement said: "Villa are set for talks with England full-backs Luke Young and Nicky Shorey after agreeing fees with Middlesbrough and Reading respectively.
"Both players are due to have medicals and talk terms today (Thursday)."
Meanwhile, Reading could also be set to lose James Harper following reports Boro have made a renewed bid for the midfielder.
