Reading chairman John Madejski has reiterated the club's stance over Stephen Hunt, insisting he is not for sale.
Sunderland are desperate to land the Irish midfielder - who has been in outstanding form this season.
The Black Cats have had three bids for Hunt turned down, the last being a £4.5million offer on Thursday.
Hunt has made it known he would be willing to listen to Sunderland's offer - but Reading are adamant they will not be letting him leave.
"Stephen Hunt's contract is not up until 2010. He is such a stalwart of the club it would be absolute madness to let him go," said Madejski.
"He has got a heart like a lion. He gives his all for us. I think he's just fantastic."
