Nicky Shorey remains hopeful of signing a new contract at Reading as talks continue regarding an extension.

Reading defender hoping to agree extension

Nicky Shorey remains hopeful of signing a new contract at Reading, but concedes he would struggle to refuse an offer from the Premier League's top four. The England full-back has 18 months remaining on his current deal and has been locked in negotiations regarding an extension. He confirmed talks are ongoing and Shorey insists he is still enjoying his football at the Madejski Stadium after almost seven years with the club. "I'm still having talks with Reading and just seeing how that goes," Shorey told Sky Sports News.

Speculation

"Obviously when January gets nearer there's going to be a lot more speculation. I don't think just about me, but about a lot of players, even at Reading. We will wait and see what happens. "You want to test yourself at the best, everyone does. If a top-four team comes in and says 'we want you' you'd be lying if you said you didn't want to go. "But while I'm at Reading I will always give my best. I've enjoyed it here for a long time and I will enjoy it in the future. "I'm trying to get a contract sorted here and we'll see where that takes us." Shorey also refuted suggestions that it is guaranteed that he will leave the club, with West Ham United strongly linked with a New Year bid. He added: "It was never certain. I have always been keeping in contact with Reading. "We are talking now and I hope to get something sorted, but these things take their time."
