Nicky Hammond is optimistic Nicky Shorey and Leroy Lita will sign new Reading contracts.

Shorey has two years remaining on his present deal, while Lita has just one.

They both enjoyed fine seasons last term, with Shorey earning a call-up to the England side for the recent friendly against Brazil.

The left-back has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of West Ham and Newcastle, and Reading are keen to tie him to a new deal.

Lita has impressed for England Under 21s in Holland this month and there has been some speculation of a move away from The Madejski Stadium.

However, director of football Hammond has been given reason to believe both players want to commit their long-term futures to the club.

"I've held initial discussions with both players' representatives," he told the club's official website.

"They were very positive meetings. We're keen to take things forward and the discussions will continue in the not too distant future."
