Kevin Doyle is happy to be on the short-list for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award.
Kevin Doyle is delighted to have been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, although he does not expect to win.
The Reading striker made an immediate impact upon the club's promotion to the Premiership and has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances.
His exploits have been recognised by his peers, and he is competing with Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Aaron Lennon and Micah Richards for the young player prize.
But while the Republic of Ireland international was happy to have made it on to the six-man short-list, he downplayed his chances of scooping the honour.
"I just found out yesterday from Marcus Hahnemann, who is our representative for the PFA and he told me about it," Doyle told Sky Sports News.
"Obviously, I'm delighted to be nominated and it's a nice feeling come the end of the season.
"There are some big names in it and it's nice to be picked by my fellow players.
"I suppose it's always nice to get nominated for stuff and it caps off a reasonably good season for me.
"It (the presence of Ronaldo, Fabregas et al) kills my chances of winning it, but it's nice to be among those players and see my name there.
"It's something I didn't expect to see, so obviously I'm delighted."
