Northampton Town starlet Brad Johnson is looking to pen a new deal at Sixfields.

The 19-year-old midfielder is out of contract in the summer, but he is hoping to pen an extension very soon.

"We're going to be talking this week about a new contract," said the former Cambridge trainee (pictured).

"Hopefully we can get that sorted out. I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing, but we'll see what happens.

"I would like to stay at Northampton but I need to speak to the manager and see what his plans are this week.

"I think the manager likes me as a player - he's been playing me since he's been here so fingers crossed."

Meanwhile, loan defender Alex Pearce is also waiting to see where his short-term future lies.

The 18-year-old is on loan from Premiership Reading - but his deal expires this weekend.

"I have been fairly pleased with my form since I have been at the club, but you always think you can do better," he said.

"My loan is up after Saturday and I will leave the decision about extending it up to the two clubs.

"They are all big games but we know that Saturday's match with Bournemouth has even more importance riding on it. We are keen to bounce back from the loss at Bristol City and I am sure we can do that."

In other news - Jerome Watt has returned to the club from his loan spell at Morecambe.
