Leroy Lita has admitted that Reading would find it tough to replace Steve Sidwell.
Sidwell is considering his options closely, as he has so far failed to strike a new deal with The Royals and could leave on a free transfer in the summer.
The midfielder has not let the speculation surrounding his future affect him, as he has performed with credit during Reading's debut season in the Premiership.
Reading are trying to persuade Sidwell to sign a new deal and striker Lita is hopeful a package can be agreed.
"He is a big player for us," Lita told Sky Sports News. "I have seen him bully a lot of big-name midfielders and he has done fantastic.
"If we lose him it will be a blow, but he is committed and every game he is up for it. His attitude is spot on and that can't be questioned.
"He is in a great position and you have to respect that."
Reading are facing the prospect of being without Kevin Doyle for a number of weeks due to a hamstring injury and Lita is aware it will be tough to replace the striker.
"He is a key player for us, he has scored a lot of goals and does a lot for the team," noted Lita.
"If we are missing him it is going to be a big loss for the team."
