Royals ponder Egyptian move

Steve Coppell is looking into the possibility of bringing in Mohamed Aboutrika.

Steve Coppell admits he is looking into the possibility of bringing in Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika.

The Premiership new boys had the player watched at the African Cup of Nations in February and have kept an eye on his progress ever since.

Aboutrika, 28-years-old, is keen on a move to England and could now be in line to have his wish granted courtesy of a loan switch to The Madejski Stadium.

"Through an agent we have some details on him," Coppell told the Reading Evening Post. "We are exploring the possibility of doing something on loan.

"But the closer we get to January the more names come our way.

"The mail every day brings in 20-odd player recommendations through agents. He is just one who is a possibility.

"We have made preliminary enquiries, but nothing else."

Coppell recently made a trip north to observe Hibernian's draw with Celtic in the SPL but he insists he was not looking at particular targets, with some reports having suggested Hibs duo Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson are on his radar.

"There was not one particular player I was looking at. I can honestly say I did not go to look at those two players," he added.

"They are good players and Hibs recognise that.

"I'm sure they will be working very, very hard to make sure they are part of their future for many, many years to come, but I just wanted to see if any players could transfer to English football."
